Public Safety Message - Risks around Open Water Swimming |
||
|
With all this good weather we are having, there is an increased number of reports related to people entering private land and swimming in lakes / open water 🛑 This is a serious safety risk as although the outside temperature may be rather hot, the temperature of the water will be significantly colder. Cold water shock is real and can hinder a person's swimming ability and make it harder to exit the water. There have been a number of water related incidents recently across the country due to the warmer weather and we do not want to see this happen‼️ Please advice your children not to trespass on private property and to not enter any body of water that is not controlled and managed safely.
In the Leire and Broughton Astley areas there have been reports of teenagers trespassing and swimming in private ponds, causing disruption to local communities who pay to use this area and as such are causing ASB in the locality.
We are continuing to patrols these areas but would like parents to ensure they know where their children are and to reiterate the above to their children for their awareness and safety! 🚔
A number of children have been stopped and spoken to by police around this issue and they will be receiving letters to their parents advising on this matter.
Anyone found trespassing on these lands and acting in an anti-social manner will be dealt with accordingly!
